Listed as a drayman in the Fourth Ward in 1870 Census, on same page as Jack Yates.
Listed as a porter in the 1880 Census.
There is a Rice owning a building at Bell and Milam on the lot owned by the “Colored” Methodist church on W. E. Wood’s 1869 map of Houston. That year, Rice is also listed as renting a house to the Freedmens Bureau for a school.
