p. 344 notes Texas as “the biggest attraction for Louisiana emigres. Only there, it seems, did Louisianans feel safe.” But “Confederate officials in Louisiana disapproved of this exodus.”

Names John F. Leigh as a Louisiana planter who moved to Texas and wished to return to Louisiana after the war. Letter is from the David Weeks and Family Papers, LSU. The author of the journal edited by Francis Fearn is also mentioned as having spent time in Texas. Eliza McHatton, author of two books, also mentioned as spending time in Texas during the war.

Much of the article concerns emigration after the war to Brazil, Mexico, and the north.
