In one 1855 case, an affidavit details how enslaved people transported by the firm to Natchez on steamboat were treated around the time Henrietta Wood would have been taken on the same route:

On our trip South the negroes were put on deck of steamboat sleeping in bunks. They were chained together two by two till we got to the mouth of Ohio river, when they were unchained.1
