Thomas Foraker Scrapbook

Scrapbook of antislavery clipplings, 1844-1854, held at the Cincinnati History Library and Archives, and created by Thomas Foraker, the father of Ohio governor Joseph Benson Foraker.

One clipping, apparently from June 17, 1854, headlined “Another Fugitive Slave Case: Eight Negroes Arrested,” mentions a “Sheriff Ward, of Covington Ky.” (possibly Zebulon Ward), who assisted United States Deputy Marshal Thayer and deputy city marshalls Lee and Worley, in capturing a group of fugitive slaves who had been hiding in a stable about a mile beyond the asylum.
